To commemorate World Malaria Day on the 25th of April, 2026, the health education officers for Owan East carried out a series of impactful activities aimed at raising awareness about malaria prevention and control.
According to the EDSPHCDA Assistant Health Education Officer for Owan East, Mrs. Rachel Osamoje, the event, which took place from April 25th to 27th, 2026, was held in Uahunmi (Ward 2) and Afuze (Ward 1) communities.
The activities included advocacy visits to local leaders, sensitization campaigns, and free malaria testing and treatment for residents. The main goal was to influence decision-makers to support malaria control efforts.
Despite being preventable and treatable, malaria remains a major public health challenge. The health education officers emphasized the importance of simple actions like using insecticide-treated nets, maintaining a clean environment, and seeking early medical care at the nearest primary healthcare facility.
