A community engagement meeting on malaria, Lassa fever, and routine immunization (RI) services was held on 3rd July 2026 at Chief Alasa Odion’s Compound, Usun Old, Ivbiadaobi Ward 10, Owan East LGA. According to reports from Mrs. Rachel Osamoje, EDSPHCDA Assistant Health Education Officer for Owan East, the meeting was facilitated by the Health Education Officers (HEO), Local Immunization Officer (LIO), and Ward Focal Person to raise awareness on malaria prevention, Lassa fever, and the importance of routine immunization services.

The meeting was well attended by the representatives of the traditional leader, community leaders, women, youths, and other community residents.
Participants were educated on the causes, signs and symptoms, prevention, and early treatment of malaria and Lassa fever. Emphasis was placed on maintaining a clean environment, proper food storage, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets, and seeking prompt medical attention whenever symptoms occur.

The importance of routine immunization (RI) was also highlighted, and community members were encouraged to ensure that all eligible children receive their vaccines according to the national immunization schedule at the nearest health facility.
Participants were further informed that free malaria services are available to everyone without discrimination, particularly pregnant women, children under five years of age, and other vulnerable groups. They were encouraged to take full advantage of these services.
The session was interactive, with participants asking questions and sharing their concerns. Community leaders pledged to continue sensitizing residents and to support health interventions aimed at improving the health and well-being of the community.
