EDSPHCDA Partners with WHO to Strengthen Staff Capacity for Supportive Supervision
To improve the quality of services in primary healthcare centres, a one-day training on supportive supervision was held on Friday, 27th March 2026 at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA).
The training was organized by the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). In attendance were partners like WHO, MRITE and Zonal Technical Officers from NPHCDA Edo State, as well as EDSPHCDA headquarters staff.
The goal of the training was to refresh and strengthen staff on supportive supervision to primary healthcare centres. Participants were trained on how to properly use supervision checklists, administer questionnaires, and provide on-the-job mentorship during visits to PHCs.
Facilitators also gave practical, step-by-step guidance on how to open and use the ODK app for data collection that will help staff improve the accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
In addition, the training focused on a simple, but important skills like active listening and emotional intelligence. These skills are needed to help supervisors communicate and handle challenges calmly, amd support health workers in a respectful and understanding way.
