The Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Coulson Oahimire Oshoikhia on Monday, the 24th of August 2026, received members of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANNNA) during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration and improving primary healthcare delivery in Edo State.
The visit, which took place at the Executive Secretary ‘s office at 28 Ezoti Street, Benin City, was focused on intimating the Executive Secretary on NANNNA’s intention of adopting and supporting Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across Nigeria to improve access to quality health care services in communities.
NANNNA is an organization committed to improving health outcomes for Nigerians at home and abroad through collaboration, professional support, and healthcare development initiatives.
Under the proposed adoption program, a total of 33 Primary Healthcare is being targeted across Nigeria, with Edo State allocated seven (7) facilities for adoption and support.
The adoption model is designed to allow members of NANNNA to take ownership of supporting selected PHCs by working closely with stakeholders to identify needs, implement interventions, and provide continuous follow-up to ensure sustainable improvements.
The key areas of focus under the initiative include:
- Infrastructure Development: Addressing structural needs such as repairs, facility improvements, solar power solutions, and other essential upgrades.
- Data Strengthening: Improving health information management and data systems for better planning and decision-making.
- Equipment Support: Providing essential medical equipment needed to enhance service delivery.
- Capacity Building: Supporting continuous training and skills development for healthcare workers.
- Telemedicine: Promoting technology-driven healthcare solutions to improve access to expert medical support.
The initiative is expected to transform adopted PHCs in Edo into stronger, more functional, and sustainable healthcare facilities by ensuring continuous engagement, monitoring, and support.
In his response, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, welcomed the delegation and appreciated NANNNA for its commitment towards strengthening primary healthcare delivery in Edo State.
He expressed the Agency’s readiness to collaborate with the association, noting that such partnership is critical to improving healthcare outcomes and ensuring that the people of Edo State have access to quality and functional primary healthcare services.
